  The diverse landscape also features volcanoes and alpine ridges. The Lord of the Rings fans will recognize the Fiordland and Southern Lakes in the South Island as the Middle Earth feature in the films.
• Galapagos—The volcanic archipelago in the Pacific Ocean is a must-see destination for every natural history and wildlife enthusiast. This is the island where Charles Darwin collected the research materials of his theory of evolution.
  You will spot exotic animals like lava lizards, penguins, and marine iguanas. Cruise the archipelago in a catamaran to explore new islands or kayak on the sea and swim with turtles and sea lions.
